Eurovisionfiasko 2011 – Schlagerprofilerna reactions…

Well! That didn’t go quite as we’d imagined.

Turkey didn’t go through for the first time in I don’t know how long (which was quite fair) and Armenia missed the final for the first time since being part of Eurovision.

All the ‘buskers’ went through – Switzerland, Iceland and Finland, which means two Nordic entries in the final. But NOT the hotly tipped favourite, Haba Haba from Norway! The Norwegian delegation thought it was in the bag, so their disappointment must be huge right now.

Onto Georgia and Lithuania – what the hell happened there? OK. I don’t really know Eastern European hard rock, so I can buy Georgia. But Lithuania? How can anyone like that? They won’t finish above Eric if we get to the final on Saturday…

…A final in which we could finally get the cock fight between Eric versus Alexey. That will be great TV! And entertaining, as long as we win. I don’t begrudge the Russian song a decent starting number, though. Let him come early or mid show. Please. [Schlagerfiasko: Russia will be the tenth song.]

Serbia and Greece? Well, they would go through in a really weak semi-final. Azerbaijan and Hungary had the evening’s best songs, in my opinion – even if their performances and performers didn’t really do them justice tonight.

I can’t say too much about the TV broadcast. It must have been awful to have our poor friend Edward [af Sillén] commentating on his mobile phone [the Swedish commentary feed was cut during the broadcast]. And the annoying German hosts were just oo much. The postcards and green room were OK, though. The drumming interval act less so…

Anyhow, this was just the poor foreplay. Thursday is the focus – Sweden can also vote then. We’ll have good songs from Bosnia, Ireland, Estonia and Denmark. And it’ll be a nailbiting time for all of us as we hope that Eric isn’t the new Stella.
