The Hit Parade – Finland
As part of Schlagerfiasko’s efforts to recover from this year’s Eurovision, I’ve decided it’s time to see what’s been released while my attention has been elsewhere. And here’s what’s happening in Finland right now, from a schlagerfan’s point of view…
Nuori ja kaunis, Olavi Uusivirta & Anna Järvinen
Lovely ballad about a troubled couple. Bit of a messy chorus, but they are going through some difficult relationship problems, so it’s understandable. Soundtrack to the film Elokuu.
Poika (saunoo), Poju
The theme tune to the victorious Finnish ice hockey squad that beat Sweden over the weekend. Rap with the cheapest beats available, all backed with an accordion. Awful.
Maailman toisella puolen, Haloo Helsinki!
The band have been on their holidays, and recorded this to accompany their home video of the occasion. I think. It’s good, although I’m not sure that guitarist at 2:30 is getting quite the sound out of his instrument that he wants us to believe.
